OBD, Bench or Boot?
These three reading methods differ in access and the amount of data available.
OBD: access through the diagnostic port
With a supported protocol, access takes place through the vehicle's on-board diagnostics (OBD) port. Whether an actual read or a virtual read is available depends on the control unit, software version and tool. Check the tool manufacturer's official protocol documentation before starting.
Bench: direct connection to the control unit
With the Bench method, the control unit connects directly to the tool through its connectors. The available data and wiring diagram are unit-specific. The correct cable set, suitable power supply and a supported protocol are essential.
Boot: access for specific control units
Boot access may require opening the control unit. This method requires specialist expertise and must follow the manufacturer's instructions precisely. OBD, Bench and Boot are not interchangeable file formats: please state the method actually used when ordering.
