Cold Start-Off
Cold Start-Off refers to requests to modify certain processes after engine start. Which functions are involved and whether editing is an option depend on the engine, exhaust system and software version.
Cold start is more than an engine speed target
After a cold start, the engine control unit performs several tasks. These include stable running and vehicle-specific warm-up strategies. Exhaust aftertreatment may also be involved. A louder start or higher idle speed must therefore be considered in context. Describe exactly which behaviour you want changed, when it occurs and which engine or exhaust modifications are already present.
Investigate unusual symptoms first
Rough running, starting difficulties or unusual noises need diagnosis first. Simply modifying a warm-up strategy can neither reliably explain nor resolve those causes. File assessment requires ECU identification, software version, original/modified status and reading tool details. The potential scope must then be evaluated against drivability, component behaviour and integration of exhaust functions. Whether the proposed modification is permitted must be clarified before use; a quieter sound alone does not confirm technical suitability.
Frequently asked questions
Can this repair poor cold starting?
Not generally. Starting problems must first be diagnosed; their cause may lie outside the software.
Is only the idle speed changed?
That depends on the vehicle. The term does not describe a fixed set of functions; the scope must be defined beforehand.
