Master and Slave flashers: how the file workflow differs
The device label does not establish calibration quality. File format, assignment and an agreed editing workflow are what matter.
Understand file access and collaboration
In many flasher systems, a Master provides an unencrypted file that can be edited with suitable software. A Slave instead uses a protected format whose editing is tied to an assigned Master. The exact arrangement is manufacturer-specific. Check the conditions of the particular system rather than treating the terms as a universal promise about every function.
Turrin Elettronica describes MC3 as an independently operating Master system and also offers Slave units on request for creating a corresponding network. Your job record should clearly state which version you have. The choice concerns the workflow; it does not turn an unchecked file into a suitable calibration.
What to establish before the first job
Agree with your editor how a file will be sent and returned. In a linked arrangement, availability, responsibilities and the handling of follow-up questions are especially important. Even with an unencrypted working file, confirm that the receiving tool supports its format. A different file extension changes neither its format nor its assignment.
- Which device version and assignment are in place?
- In which format is the starting file sent to the editor?
- How is the modified revision assigned back to the job?
- Who handles a returned file that is not accepted?
- What options does the manufacturer describe for changing the arrangement?
Keep these answers in writing. Statements about a later change or conversion must come from the specific offer or manufacturer terms. The operating principle alone does not imply entitlement to a free or immediately available conversion.
Workshop example: a returned file cannot be matched
A workshop sends a readout for editing and later receives a file without a job number. Two similar projects are running at the same time. Before loading a file, the incoming readout, device assignment and revision identifier are compared. If the returned file belongs to a different workflow, the editor should supply a correctly assigned return file.
Repeatedly renaming, unpacking or mixing components does not replace that clarification. Keep the original submission and the received return unchanged. With the exact wording of an error message, the relevant support team can trace the process without several unknown intermediate versions having been created.
Choose the workflow around your business
Consider who will perform the technical editing and how you approve changes. A workshop seeking a fixed collaboration has different organisational needs from a business editing files in-house. In either case, backups, vehicle checks and unambiguous identification of the written revision remain part of the job.
